GENESIS, The Premiere Digital Animation Event for Kenya

Aug 15th at the British Council, Upper Hill, Nairobi

A3 is holding its inaugural event in Kenya and promises to offers one of the largest animation platforms in East Africa. The event features presentations by Kenyan animation producers as well as industry professionals from South Africa, The UK and New Zealand!

History of African Animation
Speaker Dr. Paula Callus, Bournemouth University, UK, Department of 3D Animation. Talks about the history of animation on the continent and her findings in her PhD thesis on the topic. 45 min + Q&A.

The Business Case for Animation Production in Africa

Facilitated By Jimmy Gitonga of The ARK, (a digital media house in Nairobi), and Association of Animation Artistes Kenya board member.

Featuring:

Dumi Gumbi Animation Producer, AnAmazing Workshop, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Talks about the mini-series and short films produced for the South African market. 30min + Q&A

Claudia Lloyd, Animation Producer Tiger Aspect, UK Creators of ‘Mr. Bean’ & Myke Rabar, Animation Producer Homeboyz Entertainment.
They talk about ‘Tinga Tinga Tales’ a Disney/BBC production, being produced now in Kenya and the business case for African animation. 30min + Q&A

Rubinder Choudrie, Animation Software Retailer.
Rubinder Talks about the international known award winning 2D software solution ToonBoom, that he represents for the East African region and what it has to offer the local market. 30min + Q&A

Ngendo Mukii, Animator Mediae.
Talks about the production 'African Tales' being broadcast now by Citizen TV in Kenya. 30min + Q&A

Digital Matte Painting for TV and Film
by Yvonne Muinde Digital Matte Painting Professional.
Talks about her experience working as an animator and digital matte painter for feature films and studios such as Industrial Light and Magic, USA, Animal Logic, Australia and WETA, New Zealand

Creative Motion Graphic techniques in Adobe After Effects
by Amit Ramrakha Motion graphics Professional. Professional animator with working experience at BBC, UK’s, motion graphics department. Leads an introductory tutorial in motion graphic techniques in Adobe After Effects including:

  • Overview of interface and menus.
  • Animating Text and Images in 2D and 3D space. 
  • A look at built in tools, effects and plug-ins. 
  • Introduction to "compositing": layering live action video, with graphics and visual effects.
